Time-Twister Time-Twister

Mavis leaned on her broom and looked at her Marla cleaning cart. "Do you know what time it is?" »
Marla looked at him and said, "A quarter to two."
"I've hated cleaning Dr. Hammer's lab," Mavis said, "ever since that fire."
- What fire? Marla asked.
"That's right. He wasn't there when it happened. He turned on a Bunsen burner and his cat knocked him over. Half of his lab burned down and the university is afraid of losing the building. But did they do anything? No, they like Dr. Hammer because he makes headlines. The university gets publicity and they like him. »
Marla swept the hallway tiles from side to side. "Why is this guy in the news?" she asked. "He's really crazy, but he's very serious and they love him." She nodded and opened the door to the laboratory.
"What are you talking about?" Marla asked.
"Time travel. Can you believe it? He says we can go back in time and change things. If I said that, they would trap me. But if he says it, they will put it in the newspapers and write articles and books about it. »
Marla turned around with the cloth on her head. "Hell, if I could go back in time, I'd do things to LeRoy to make him run. He won't be able to run anymore when I'm done with him."
"There are things you shouldn't touch," said Mavis. "People have warned about bad things that happen with time travel." He entered the laboratory and looked from side to side. "It's still the same story. He lets his cat run free in the lab and leaves hair everywhere." He inspected the floor of the entire lab. "No poop on the floor this time, thank God." This cat uses the box , for a change.
"This place has more wires and tubes and bins than I've ever seen anywhere else," says Marla.
Mavis opened the fridge. "What are you doing?" asked Marla. "The cleaners don't open the refrigerators." »
"Yes," Mavis replied. "He leaves us sodas." He grabbed a can and threw it at Marla. "Don't open it yet or it will splash in your face."
Dr. Hammer opened a back door to the lab and entered. "Have you seen Schrödinger?" he asked. "That crazy-looking cat?" asked Mavis. "Did a Bunsen flame bring him down again?"
"No," the physicist replied, "he inspires me every day. He has the equation stuck in his mustache, "I've never met before," he told Marla. hammer." »
"My name is Marla."
"I heard what you said, Mavis," he said. "There are things you shouldn't touch."
"I didn't know we could be heard," he said.
"It's not serious. I'm in uncharted territory. People are afraid of unknown territories. My father died when I was young. He had a heart condition and we had no idea. So, if I could go back to see him, I would advise him to take care of his heart. This is what motivated me to study time travel. »
Mavis ran a damp cloth up and down the counter and washed it in the sink. "Can you take me back to see my son, doctor?" Michael died when he was ten years old. A car hit him while he was on a crosswalk in the Bronx. The driver was under the influence of methamphetamine. »
"I wish I could," said Dr. hammer "Progress has been slow. Note the intersection, the date and time of the accident. Who knows?" Maybe one day I'll get there. »
She wrote down the information and gave it to him.
"I use lasers and rotating mirrors to warp space-time. I'm close to a breakthrough. Your story about your son gives me a purpose. I just need more energy, which I can get tonight."
"You're busy, Doctor," Mavis said. "My wife left me and my children don't speak to me anymore," he said. "I was so involved in the project that I just came home to talk to them. I attended my children's high school graduation and immediately went to the laboratory. I did not stay for the cake and the ice cream. So I am here, day and night." Besides, I don't have much to live for. »
The two maids finished their work and left. He closed the door behind them. That night he did equations and projections on his computers. He checked the coordinates and power levels. At night, the energy consumption was low in the campus, which meant that he could use more for his experiment. He aligned his lasers, firing them so that they reflected off the mirrors, which created a gravitational field. He was about to get to the middle of this business when he heard a knock at the door.
He looked at her. It was after midnight.
"Who would want to come in here at this time of night?" he asked. He put on his suit jacket, adjusted his tie and opened the door.
Two tall men stood in the hallway, dressed alike, in dark suits with black ties and white shirts. They had pale skin and dark eyes. One of them said in a robotic voice, "Can we come in?" »
"Are you from the National Grant Center?" Dr. Hammer asked. "I await your answer."
The first man pushed Dr. Hammer aside and entered the lab. "What Dr. Hammer asked."
The second man stood next to the first. They look at the scientist. The first spoke again. "You don't have to tell anyone about this."
Dr. Hammer says: "A lot of people know about my research. What are you talking about?"
The second man nodded at the lasers and mirrors. "Don't tell anyone," he said.
"Gentlemen, I don't want to be rude," said Dr. Hammer, "but I have to start an important experiment. You have not identified. You will have to leave. He stared at the strange men. Suddenly he couldn't move. I could no longer close my eyes, walk or move my nose. I couldn't think anymore. He continued to stare straight ahead. The two men headed for the door. One of them turned and said, "Don't tell anyone," then opened the door. Dr. Hammer heard his footsteps as the two men disappeared down the hallway.
After what seemed like an hour, the spell, or whatever it was, was lifted. He rubbed his eyes to make sure he wasn't dreaming the whole episode. "They didn't say no," he thought. "They said not to tell anyone."
He calibrated the lasers and mirrors for the fifth time, stood in the middle of the setup and flipped a switch. A loud noise filled the room and the electric lights flickered. At the last second, Schrödinger rushed to Dr. hammer - No, you can't come! cried the cat, but it was too late. The two had time traveled to the Bronx. They were at a busy intersection. Schrödinger, terrified, rushed into the street. Dr. Hammer followed him. A car skidded and missed the cat, but hit Dr. Hammer with all its force. His head hit the floor and bled.
A young man came to his aid and took the scientist's head in his hands. "Everything will be fine," he told her.
Dr. Hammer replied: "No. This is the end. What is your name son?"
"Michael," said the boy. "That car would have hit me. Instead, it hit you."
"Michael," Dr. Hammer said as sirens blared in the distance.
"Yes?"
"Save my cat."
Michael said, "I'll try to find him."
"One more thing," Dr. Hammer said, breathing hard. "Another..." He looked up. Two men in black suits, dark ties, white shirts, and sunglasses appeared in front of him. They cross their arms and look at him.
"Time travel," he said and died before he could say more.
Mavis and Marla took a break from their cleaning carts in a hallway. Mavis says, "No one has seen Dr. Hammer all week." »
"And his cat?" Marla asked.
"No one has seen that cat yet," Mavis said. "I have good news," Marla said. "Fantastic news."
"What you do?"
"My son came home last night."
"You said he was dead. Died in a car accident."
"He was, or so I thought. He came, dressed in a suit and tie like a professor. He said he had to see. And do you know what he brought with him? »
"I do not know."
"A cat. This cat looked like Dr."
"This grumpy cat has always been a fighter."
"My son is alive!"
"I don't know. So where have you been all this time?"
"He went to school for years and became a physicist, or, I mean, a physicist. Call him a doctor now."
"I'll be… ..”
"He says he knows what happened to Dr. Hammer, but he can't tell anyone."
"Why not?"
"He says he was threatened. He must have kept that in his mind."
"That's weird. Should we call the police?"
"No. He said you shouldn't touch certain things, or that you can change dimensions. People can die in one timeline and live in another. He was talking like that all night and I didn't understand."
"It is also beyond me."
“He asked me to take care of the cat for a while. I said okay. But my landlord said I couldn't have animals. Don't tell anyone. »
