Most voters determine which candidate, to vote for, not based on qualifications, solutions, or reality, but, often, far more on, whether they like the individual, some aspect of his message, personality, etc. Unfortunately, we often discuss, that, once elected, most politicians fail to evolve and/ or transform, into statesmen, and resort to catch - phrases, political posturing, etc, rather than serving the best interests of the constituency, they were elected, to serve, and represent! Even worse, we often witness, confusing messages, from these individuals, when we need and deserve, a CONSISTENT message. With that in mind, this article will attempt to examine, review, consider, and briefly discuss, using the mnemonic approach, some of the reasons, this is an important quality.
1. Clarity; constant: character: We are presently witnessing, a period of time, unlike most, in recent memory, because, it often appears, our present President, and Congress, rarely provide a clarity, or a constant focus, based on needs, relevance, and sustainability. Shouldn't we seek representatives, who consistently proceed, with the quality of genuine character, which focuses on serving others, rather than their self - interest, and/ or personal, political agenda?
2. Options; opportunities; opinions: We are all entitled to our opinions, but, wouldn't it be better, if the leaders considered options and opportunities, with an open - mind, and considered, the potential ramifications, etc, of the nation?
3. Needs: Whose needs are being addressed, and shouldn't the words of elected officials, conform to the best way, to serve society, etc?
4. Strengthening; stronger; system: Examine who the public official's system, seems to be benefiting, and examine, what appears to be the motives. Will the nation and society, become stronger and better, because of the system, and processes, leaders pursue?
5. Integrity; imagination; ideology; ideas: Most surveys indicate, the public places politicians, in the lowest positions, based on integrity, and public esteem. One reason is most lack the inner strength, and/ or fortitude, to stand- up, for the public, common good, and possess, a quality, relevant imagination, respect the ideology of our nation (liberties, freedoms, etc), and create, ideas, focused on serving citizens, rather than their own personal agenda, and self - interest!
6. Sustainable solutions: Far too often, the wrong candidate, is elected, because he addresses, a populist message, without considering the best, sustainable solutions! Either because of inherent flaws in the political system, or the need to be elected, many office - holders, shift their messages, rather than consistently pursuing, the finest, longer - term populist views!
7. Trustworthy: How many of those, we elect, would you describe, and/ or consider, as being trustworthy?
8. Empathetic; energize; emphasis; excellence: Demand those, who you elected, to proceed, with genuine empathy, and an emphasis on the common good! Great public servants proceed with the utmost personal excellence, and a desire to energize, the society, etc!
9. Nuances: It is possible to address and consider the necessary nuances, while remaining true to, and consistent, in one's words, and deeds!
10. Timely: A public official must avoid remaining within the limits of his personal comfort zone, and avoiding the temptation, towards procrastination. Rather, these individuals must provide well - considered, timely leadership and direction!
We don't need more elected officials, who merely use empty rhetoric, and/ or making unfulfilled promises! Wake up, America, and demand better, from those you vote for, and elect!
