Health :Type 2 Diabetes - Learn From Yesterday's Mistakes

By Beverleigh H Piepers

We all made mistakes; this is a fact that applies to all of us. No one is exempt. Where we differ is how we handled those mistakes, and how we now deal with the end results of those issues. Mistakes mean we took action and mostly they are reversible. They also teach us to have compassion.

The past is done, and this might make us uncomfortable. It might bring resentment because maybe now you are dealing with a health problem because of what you did or didn't do yesterday. Whatever it is, you need to forget about the choices you made yesterday. Let them go and create the best way to reverse the effects.

Stop blaming yourself. Maybe you didn't act as you should have. But this does not mean you should continue to blame yourself and have negative results. See your past errors as opportunities for progress. A chance to learn something new.

If you have now been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, it is an opportunity to correct your eating habits and improve your nutrition. There is a silver lining to receiving a diagnosis in that it can serve as a wake-up call and extend your life. How often do people all of a sudden decide to eat better for the rest of their lives? New Year's resolutions aside, most of which are unsuccessful, the answer is rarely. But with Type 2 diabetes, the best option is to make sustainable change.

If your past food choices led to you gradually raising your blood sugar level and your body weight, it does not mean they have to lead to an unhealthy future. Create your fork in the road and invest in better health.

Focus on what is more important. The present, and consequently the future, is infinitely more important than the past. How you live now will determine how well you will be tomorrow. For most situations, yesterday's mistakes have little to no effect on the future. In contrast, how you act today can have a dramatic impact - for better or for worse.

Your time is your most precious resource. Spend no more time contemplating what could have been or feeling resentful over steps you took in the past. Focus on what is actionable and has the potential to make a positive difference in your life.

Make successful decisions today. When it comes to your health, your choices become critically important. Ensure you are making wise and successful decisions. This could mean...

drinking less alcohol,

lowering your intake of carbs, and taking up

resistance training for the first time.

Lastly, in making these decisions think about what you could have done in the past, but postponed. What have you been procrastinating on? Doing this could help you overcome the negative feelings that come with dwelling on yesterday's mistakes.

Although managing your disease can be very challenging, Type 2 diabetes is not a condition you must just live with. You can make simple changes to your daily routine and lower both your weight and your blood sugar levels. Hang in there, the longer you do it, the easier it gets.
