What About Me? It Isn't Fair!

Taking responsibility for your own life and not following the crowd is what uniqueness is all about.

In this society, a world dominated by social media of all sorts - it's way too easy to fall into the trap of believing that what you're seeing in these feeds is actually real life. Basing your own worth on how many 'likes' and 'thumbs up' you get from complete strangers, the constant search for approval from people you don't even know seems utterly ridiculous to me and quite possibly self-destructive, especially to the younger generation who haven't experienced a world in which these things didn't exist.

Keep this one fact in mind - nobody ever posts just a 'normal' day on social media. Heaven forbid you're having a particularly bad day. Social media posts are filled with people looking their best, eating outrageous food and apparently living a life that makes our lives seem redundant.

Don't Believe The Hype!

The happiest people that I have come across in life are the ones that always stay true to themselves. The ones that have taken responsibility for their own existence and don't blindly follow the others.

When you truly decide to live life as you choose to, all doubts and worries about 'keeping up appearances' disappear. I have the utmost respect for those individuals who 'do their own thing'. It takes true courage to be yourself.

These people don't compare their lives to others. They express themselves openly without worrying about the almighty 'like', whether that is in the virtual or real world. They can handle criticism from other people without taking it to heart. They're open to listening to others and trying new experiences and having interviewed some 'older' creatives, I can guarantee you that you'll be a lot happier!

The legacy that you will leave behind one day for others will end up being exactly what you want it to be. Ask yourself, do you want people to remember you for who you truly are or a remembrance of the multi-faceted masks that you have worn throughout your life?

I know which one I'll be leaving behind.

So no matter what your passion is - dance, music, sewing, fashion, art, writing or reading - make it a part of who you are intrinsically and throw yourself into it. Be who you were BORN TO BE and don't make any apologies for it.

The world doesn't owe you anything but you owe it to the world to be YOU!
