Stay Guided by Your Values, Not Your Necessities

At some point in your life's journey you will be faced with having to choose necessities over your values.

Maybe someone you know will put an offer on the table that's 'too good to refuse' or there might be a new business venture that you are asked to be a part of or a new job offer with lots of perks. Something that you look at and think is just too difficult to refuse.

When faced with these choices in life, take stock. Ask yourself whether the offer actually ties in with your values - your true life purpose. The thing that you want to be doing with your life. If it ties in with exactly what you are after in life then go for it! Otherwise think very carefully about the lucrative offer. No matter how lucrative it might be at this point in your life, eventually you will start to yearn getting back to what you really want to be doing.

You will be tempted, we all are but the rewards for sticking to your real passion in life will win out in the end. It will make you whole and happy.

Make clarity in your goals and purpose the one constant in your life. The foundation for everything else that happens and every choice you make. Stay the course and live your life on your chosen path based on the choices in life that you choose for yourself.

Once you are completely clear in your purpose without any ambiguity, the choice to say 'no' is made very simple.

No longer will you spend your energy on tasks that don't actually contribute towards your own goals and the things that you want to achieve. There'll be less 'getting sidetracked' and less distractions allowing you to zoom into those tasks that you truly want to be doing. Every single daily task brings you closer to your own vision for your own life.

Seeking clarity is a daunting thing for us as adults. We don't really want to acknowledge the fact that we don't really know where we are heading. That's OK. Immediate clarity is a rare thing. For myself, it took almost 5 decades to see what it was, even though I now look back and see that it was always there! My creativity and passion for being creative has manifested itself continuously throughout my entire life and I didn't realise it for what it was.

It's never too late. Never too late to start again. Never too late to realise. Never too late to wake up.

Kecemburuan semacam ini

Jacey melemparkan cangkir kopi kaca, (Mug Kaca Berinsulasi Dinding Ganda Zwilling), melintasi dapur.

Thirteenth step

My grandmother attends the church basement on Tuesday evenings. I saw him there among the metal folding chairs and antique coffee pots, his figure trembling under the fluorescent lights that buzzed like dying insects. She wears the same powder blue pullover she was buried in, the one with pearl buttons that catch the light like little moons. Others can't see it, of course. They just feel a sudden chill as they pass by where she is, or smell the ghostly smell of her Shalimar perfume mixing with the smell of burnt coffee that never leaves these rooms. But I see clearly. He's been following me to AA meetings for three months since I got my first white chip after five years of being back in the bottle. "Your grandmother was my godmother in 1985," old Pete told me after tonight's meeting, hands shaking as he poured a seven-pack of Sweet'n Low into his coffee. "Toughest godmother I ever had. She saved my life." "Mine, too," I said, not specif...
