The word 'orthodontics' comes from the Greek words 'ortho' meaning straight and 'doncia' means tooth. The total meaning equals to straighten teeth. Orthodontics is a branch of dentistry that works by identifying, treating and then preventing malocclusions. These are also known as crooked teeth or bad bite.

Malocclusion can cause due to various reasons. But the orthodontists are designated to offer a cure to these problems. The treatment procedure enables in improving the appearance of the teeth, achieve proper chewing and improve speech of the person. The pains from the malformed bites are eliminated.

The process of working of the braces is similar in adults like it is in the younger patients and children.

Some of the adults need rectification of their teeth because of malocclusions or tooth loss that they might have had in their childhood. The orthodontists say that teeth and gum health is very much important which we tend to overlook. At any age, this can be a cause of serious problem. The braces used by the orthodontists can treat these issues.

In the case of the adults, the bone structure does not grow like the children and the growing teenagers. Still, the adults can get relief with the braces if the case is not too severe. For severe cases, they may need to do maxillofacial surgery along with orthodontics.
