Turning and Returning

Was this the right decision; are you certain that your choice to turn from your well-beaten path to a new one was right? Sometimes life offers a glittery diversion, a dark challenge that beckons or even the opportunity to be a part of something you never thought was possible, offering the opportunity to make that turn even while a niggling doubt rises that warns of impending repercussions. The road is frequently bumpy when you are on the wrong path. Time and again opportunities disguised as disappointments arise that force you to re-examine the direction your life has taken; each time presenting a choice before you to turn around.

What causes people to take a path that felt wrong even in the initial appearance of the choice? Money is the most recognized cause; people make really bad choices when money is the only motivator. Beyond that are the opportunities to save someone from their own bad choices, the desire to show you are strong enough to survive something that is not your cross to bear or even the opportunity to feel important to a person or a cause you may not even believe in. These are just a few of the reasons we leave rational behind and make that turn onto the wrong path. Vulnerable for a multitude of reasons, willing to look away from the warnings and signals that suggest it will not take you where you hope to go.

You are ready to turn and return to your original path when you become haunted by the notion that you liked who you were far more than who you have become. When your secret place to hide inside contains memories of what lies behind you rather than what is before you, you are ready to return. It is usually complicated to untangle yourself from the chains that have bound you to the wrong path. They are held together by delusion, denial, coercion and manipulation. These are the chains that bind you to a bad path. Sometimes you create them yourself in an effort to believe what you wish was true. Other times you empower others to craft them around you in spite of your own reservations.

When you begin watching every motion and looking for the motivation behind it you are waking up to truth. It is the signal that says, 'time to go back to where I made this wrong turn.' The longer you ignore this sign the further downhill you will slide, making the return far more grueling than is necessary. You get to choose when to wake up from what has become your nightmare. When you do you will realize the only choice is turning and returning.

Kecemburuan semacam ini

Jacey melemparkan cangkir kopi kaca, (Mug Kaca Berinsulasi Dinding Ganda Zwilling), melintasi dapur.

Thirteenth step

My grandmother attends the church basement on Tuesday evenings. I saw him there among the metal folding chairs and antique coffee pots, his figure trembling under the fluorescent lights that buzzed like dying insects. She wears the same powder blue pullover she was buried in, the one with pearl buttons that catch the light like little moons. Others can't see it, of course. They just feel a sudden chill as they pass by where she is, or smell the ghostly smell of her Shalimar perfume mixing with the smell of burnt coffee that never leaves these rooms. But I see clearly. He's been following me to AA meetings for three months since I got my first white chip after five years of being back in the bottle. "Your grandmother was my godmother in 1985," old Pete told me after tonight's meeting, hands shaking as he poured a seven-pack of Sweet'n Low into his coffee. "Toughest godmother I ever had. She saved my life." "Mine, too," I said, not specif...
