The Difference Between BB, CC and DD Creams

With BB, CC and DD cream crowding the makeup shelves, gone are the days of simple foundation bottles as a make-up base. These beauty creams not only make it easier to apply them on the skin but are travel-friendly too, thus making you look gorgeous in minutes.

However, with so many kinds of names in the market, it often becomes confusing as to the role of these creams. Let us see first what a BB cream does. BB creams were originally formulated in Germany in the 1960s by Dermatologist Dr. Christine Schrammek to help her patient's' skin in cases of facial peels and surgery. The creams were reintroduced in the Korean market 30 years later with several movie stars endorsing the products. These BB creams are an all-in-one solution for a blemish free, oil free makeup look without the cakey appearance.

Since then, BB creams have become very popular among makeup enthusiast and make up for almost 13% of the cosmetic market in Korea. The cream is a popular product in Asia, Europe, and Australia too.

Next came the CC and DD creams. This made the product category more confusing and purchase of these more difficult. Here is a quick guide to BB, CC, and DD creams.

BB creams are more moisturizing and creamy than its counterparts. The word BB stands for beauty balm or blemish balm and does what the name suggests. It imparts a full coverage with many of them offering SPF and antioxidant properties. It gives a smooth and flawless finish, without the cakey finish of foundations. It has a light formulation than regular foundations but is a little heavy than normal moisturizers. It imparts a dewy finish and is an excellent product for normal to dry skin. However, they might be great for oily and acne prone skin.

CC creams are lightweight in texture and have a fast absorbing property. Unlike BB creams, CC Creams are oil free and therefore, perfect for oily and acne prone skin. CC creams have a lighter coverage and focus on skin correction such as any redness or sallowness. It evens out the skin and gives it a corrected flawless finish. They generally have an advanced formulation that makes them fast absorbing with light diffusing particles and antioxidants that instantly corrects the skin.

DD creams which stand for Daily Defense is the newest arrival in the cosmetic market. DD creams offer SPF, antioxidants, color correcting as well as anti-ageing benefits that help smoothens fine lines. It is lighter than the other two creams. DD creams are thicker in texture, provides better coverage and is suited for a dry and wrinkled skin. It locks in the moisture, thus leaving a younger looking soft skin behind.

Now you know which cream to buy for yourself, depending upon your skin type and makeup needs.
