Liposuction in 10 Steps

Step 1: Find a reputable liposuction specialist

This is probably the most vital step. If you falter at this point, you might end up getting the entire procedure wrong. Ideally, you should consult your general physician and request him or her to provide you with contact details of a reputable and experienced specialist. Make sure the specialist you pick has a great track record and has at least a decade of experience to brag. If possible, speak to patients treated by that individual.

Step 2: Schedule an appointment

Once you find a specialist for carrying out the weight loss surgery, schedule an appointment with him or her. During your visit to the surgeon's chamber, you should discuss factors like your health goals, benefits of the procedure, its risks, and other options you have with him or her. Also, don't forget to ask the person to inform you about the expenses you'll have to bear.

Step 3: Book the surgery date

If you are satisfied with the discussion you had during your visit to the specialist's chamber, book the surgery date. It would be wise, if you follow the surgeon's advice when deciding on the date. That's because he or she will suggest the date based on your health status.

Step 4: Get the suggested blood work done

Your general physician or the surgeon picked by you will ask you to get a few blood tests done prior to the procedure. The number of tests to be done might vary from one patient to another. One test that everyone undergoing liposuction needs to get done before the process is CBC or complete blood count. It's a test that shows the patient's hematocrit and hemoglobin.

Step 5: Get the required supplies

If you want the process of recovery to be smooth and quick, don't forget to get all the supplies from a nearby pharmacy before the surgery. Some of the items you should have ready include a pair of plastic gloves, a urinal, alcohol swabs, antibacterial soaps, sleeping mask, ear plugs, ice packs, compression garments, loose and baggy clothing, extra towels, body wipes, compression socks, stool softener, Arnica cream or gel for managing the bruises, etc. Your surgeon or general physician will provide you with a list of supplies that you'll need for easy recovery; make sure you get them ready before the process.

Step 6: Allow someone to accompany you when going for the procedure

Although liposuction is a cosmetic procedure, you should never go for it without someone by your side. You should be accompanied by someone very close to you; it can be a dear friend or someone from your family. Make sure the person accompanying you is responsible and sharp.

Step 7: Take enough rest

The surgery is over and you are discharged after spending a night at the hospital. You'll have to understand that getting the discharge certificate from the hospital doesn't mean that you are fit to resume normal life. You'll have to take enough rest even after going home; that's the only way of accelerating the recovery procedure. During this period, you should keep wearing loose garments.

Step 8: Start practicing some light exercises

After 24 to 48 hours of the surgery, you should start practicing some very light exercises. Ideally, you should go for a leisurely stroll each day. Try to cover a distance of one or two miles per day during the initial days of the postoperative period.

Step 9: Get back to your normal exercising schedule

Weight for three weeks and get back to the exercising schedule you used to follow prior to liposuction. Of course, you should follow this suggestion if you are not experiencing any complication after undergoing the process. If there's any complication, don't hesitate to get yourself checked by your general physician.

Step 10: Take post operation photos
