Who Is Responsible, Who Is to Blame?

When things go wrong, when setbacks and adversity strike, we look for who to blame. This impulse may be a reaction that attempts to get away from the utter helplessness we feel. Better to go toward and into the experience of helplessness (it doesn't, hurt us, though it hurts; it's not really unbearable or overwhelming, those are just ideas) and look for the one who is helpless.

We never find her. All we find is our self, the one aware of this experience. All we find is our Self, Awareness. Is awareness helpless? Do the beliefs and feelings of being utterly helpless, and vulnerable touch awareness, and change it, our Self in any way?
Truth is, there is no one to blame. There is no one who is personally responsible. There is no personal responsibility. There is only impersonal, or universal responsibility. Even the belief and feeling that there is personal responsibility is impersonal.

Whatever is responsible for that thought and feeling, and for every other thought and feeling is also responsible for the gusts of wind, the rain, the bird that just flew by, the sound of the airplane that just appeared, the itch on the arm... and for every object and particle in the universe as it appears, evolves and disappears.

Each particle playing its part in the Dance of the Universe. Each "person" playing our part, including Trump and his supporters and his protesters.

We can each pay close attention, listen to our heart and dance our part fully and without reservation. Each of us, and every particle in the universe has our part to play in this dance of the universe - all in the interest of universal love, beauty, and intelligence.

There is no such thing as a bigot. There are only bigoted thoughts, feelings and acts.

There is no such thing as a racist. There are only racist thoughts feelings and acts.

There is no such thing as a xenophobe. There are only xenophobic thoughts feelings and acts.

There is no such thing as a misogynist. There are only misogynistic thoughts feelings and acts.

There is no such thing as a hateful person. There are only hateful thoughts feelings and acts.

What we think, believe, feel, and do is not what or who we are. When we discover the truth of who/what we are there is no room for bigotry, prejudice, discrimination, racism, xenophobia, misogyny, or hate. There is only Love, Peace, Happiness, Beauty, and Understanding. And these stand up in sacred outrage, in sacred resistance to violent, hurtful thoughts, beliefs, feelings and actions.

As Martin Luther King so beautifully put it, "Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that".

There is no person or entity that is responsible. There is no person or entity to blame. Knowing this is loving and intelligent. When we know our True Self, we know that there is only universal, impersonal responsibility. Each particle is doing it's part in the interest of Love and Intelligence. Overlooking this leads to the violence, chaos and the mess we see. We can think, feel, act and relate in loving, intelligent, healing ways as each of us, in our own time, in our own way as prescribed by the Laws of the Universe, ceases to overlook the reality of our Being.

I have been a professional counselor since 1981. I have treated people with a host of emotional and behavioral difficulties including but not limited to depression, anxiety, post traumatic stress, bereavement, substance abuse, marital problems, and parenting problems. I have worked with individuals of all ages and cultures, with couples and families, and with groups.

I believe that "Life takes care of itself", when we get out of our own way, and that our job is to facilitate nature to heal itself when "ill". I am interested in how we develop emotionally from infancy to old age, how we communicate unconsciously in our lives, and in the role that our unexamined beliefs play in our suffering.
I love this work and I welcome anyone who would like to contact me.
