Live and Let Live

President Rodrigo Duterte. The man who came with a political will, a will confidently placed upon him by the people of The Philippines. He is akin to a specialist doctor who came with a treatment - precise and painful, supported by the anecdote of democracy, to heal a nation plagued by multiple disorders of 'civil dishonesty' mainly corruption, crime, drugs and an imbalance social strata, fossilized due to years of misrule, plunder and dictatorship. Bread and butter issues, if not resolved, will snowball into devastating economic crisis as at the end of the day, bread and butter issues remain the main catalyst to determine the progress of a nation more so for a country like The Philippines, which frequently thrives on, and continues to rest on its fair share of critical issues - incompetent management of the nation's resources by highly corrupt leaders, government officials and society heads.

If communism can be construed and accepted as an ideology, an ideology to uplift the socio-economy of the working class, I hereby admiringly launch a term coined especially for Mr. Duterte - 'DUTERTENISM', an ideology, probably seen as being devoid of compassion in the initial stages, however, in the long term, offering a safe safety net for the people of The Philippines, putting them as the most prioritized entity and being compassionate, offering hope for humanity, offering life to the people of The Philippines as a whole, would be the consequence of his non-conventional policy and policing methods. I could rightfully claim the term-'DUTERTENISM' as my copyright but in doing so, it would be a gross injustice inflicted onto a man, as the way I see it, who was godly sent to heal the wounds, those unhealed deadly wounds plaguing a country that has so much to offer to the rest of world. Hence, I would like to maintain the status-quo of my generosity in keeping my copyright options open in order for Mr. Duterte's work to be recognised world-wide.

With most of the entrusted mechanisms of the country leaning towards failure, what else can be more pertinent, for a newly-elected President, who is well-tested and well-oiled to the core during his tenure as the Mayor of Davao City, an urbanised city in Mindanao, Southern Philippines, itself a city engulfed with a myriad of issues, challenging the social fabric of the city than to react, more so in reacting differently? Mr.Duterte had developed the city with his convicted stand, firmness and being totally resolute, deafening himself to the calls of certain parties (I wouldn't call it from the international community as one swallow does not make a summer) to resort to more humane measures in dealing with the drug scourge.

Mr.Duterte, with all respect, had not only dealt with the drug scourge effectively, but also became the scourge himself, sending shivers into the spines of drug addicts, drug suppliers, drug dealers and drug lords. Today, Davao City is hailed as one of the safest cities in the world and being a filial citizen from a South-east Asian country, I am proud to bask in this limelight as in most circumstances, cities or places in this part of the region are often labeled as 'dangerous for tourists' zones.

A drug like Paracatemol is prescribed for common fever and body aches. However, if the same drug is prescribed to treat a deadly tumour, then it is definitely high noon on the priority list to change the doctor at once because his prescription is not anywhere near in treating the root cause of the tumour but only to reduce the pain. DUTERTENISM is all about finding the root cause of the 'tumour', eliminate them at once without fear or favour and maintain the hygiene to prevent further cancer cells from multiplying.

This, in the ideology of DUTERTENISM, can only be achieved through placing the country on an alert mode, and this is possible only when the elected leader swings at once into an act of spring-cleaning, an act of massive housekeeping, an act of setting the records straight, an act which in the patriotic lens, speaks volume for his unshaken and undeterred commitment in getting rid the cancerous cells that had been devouring his nation all these years.

These are the glaring traits of Mr. Duterte. Mr. Duterte believes that you "cannot guarantee development if your peace and order, security and safety, is not guaranteed for all citizens". So that is a prerequisite for real development of the city, and now the country.

According to wire reports, Mr. Duterte campaigned on a simple theme: "Elect me, and I'll do nationally what I did in Davao". What else can be more evident that the obvious truth that the criminals, they fear him, but the law-abiding citizens, they love him and this was eventually translated into votes, electing him as the 16th President of The Philippines.
