Create Your Own Luck to Become Luckier

How many times have you heard someone say, "Oh they are so lucky!" or "That person always wins. They must have some real luck on their side." Yeah... I'm sure we have all heard these things. I have to agree with you that it does sometimes seem that some people are luckier than the rest of us. Sometimes it also seems like luck has skipped over us and has gone unfairly to the next person. Somehow, that person right over there on the other side of the fence, standing on that greener grass, always seems to be luckier than us, wouldn't you agree?

Well, I have some news for you. It is good news, so I guess in a way, today is our lucky day, right? Well, here it is: Luck doesn't just skip over people and then land on just a few of the 'chosen' ones. Even if our past experiences with luck have led us to believe that luck mostly skips us and only lands on someone else, I'm here to tell you that that phenomenon really isn't true!

I have some more good news... Ready? Life is a do it yourself project. We all have to work very hard to create our own luck. Nobody is delivering luck. Luck is not a pizza. Luck is hard work and thorough preparation meeting opportunity. Period. Nobody is coming to do our hard work for us. And even if someone was coming to do our hard work for us, then that would result in them being better prepared over us when opportunity knocks. And you can bet that they will also be quicker than us to answer that knock. Even worse, this other person will get lucky right under our noses, and I can guarantee you that that will really stink for us.

Now teens, go learn, lead, and lay the way to a better world for all of us. Remember that when we create our own luck, we tend to become luckier. And once again, thanks in advance for all that you do, and all that you will do...

Kecemburuan semacam ini

Jacey melemparkan cangkir kopi kaca, (Mug Kaca Berinsulasi Dinding Ganda Zwilling), melintasi dapur.

Thirteenth step

My grandmother attends the church basement on Tuesday evenings. I saw him there among the metal folding chairs and antique coffee pots, his figure trembling under the fluorescent lights that buzzed like dying insects. She wears the same powder blue pullover she was buried in, the one with pearl buttons that catch the light like little moons. Others can't see it, of course. They just feel a sudden chill as they pass by where she is, or smell the ghostly smell of her Shalimar perfume mixing with the smell of burnt coffee that never leaves these rooms. But I see clearly. He's been following me to AA meetings for three months since I got my first white chip after five years of being back in the bottle. "Your grandmother was my godmother in 1985," old Pete told me after tonight's meeting, hands shaking as he poured a seven-pack of Sweet'n Low into his coffee. "Toughest godmother I ever had. She saved my life." "Mine, too," I said, not specif...
