There is a well-known saying that states "the walls have ears" meaning that someone may be listening. But I would like to make reference to the LITERAL meaning of this proverb. Why? On one occasion the Lord Jesus said to his disciples, "Let us go over to the other side." And they all got into a boat and set out. As they sailed, Jesus fell asleep. Suddenly a furious storm came up and the waves broke over the boat and it was being swamped. So the disciples woke Jesus saying: "Lord, save us! We're going to drown!" He got up and rebuked the wind and said to the raging waters: "Quiet! Be still!" The storm subsided, the wind died down and all was completely calm. "Where is your faith?" he asked his disciples.
In fear and amazement they asked one another, "Who is this? He commands even the wind and the waters, and they obey him."
On another occasion Jesus went into the region of the Decapolis. There some people brought to him a man who was deaf and could hardly talk, and they begged Jesus to place his hand on him.
After he took him aside, away from the crowd, Jesus put his fingers into the man's ears. Then he spit and touched the man's tongue. He looked up to heaven and with a deep sigh said to him, "Ephphatha!" (which means "Be opened!"). At this, the man's ears were opened, his tongue was loosened and he began to speak plainly.
Jesus commanded them not to tell anyone. But the more he did so, the more they kept talking about it. People were overwhelmed with amazement. "He has done everything well," they said. "He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak."
Based on what has been stated, we can unmistakably infer that for the Lord Jesus EVERYTHING has ears. So in the spiritual realm anything is able to hear. Even dead people can hear him. That is why he was able to bring Lazarus back to life, even when his body had been four days lying in a tomb. But at Jesus' words ("Lazarus, come out!") the dead man did come out.
Through miracles like these and many others Jesus stimulated our faith that it may grow and be focused on him. And today, in his holy and powerful name, we can ask the gates of prosperity "to be opened" for us who are in a recurrent state of poverty. We can order the gates of health "to be opened" for us who carry an open wound due to abuses or traumatic experiences and are always depending on pills. We can command the gates of freedom "to be opened" and set free our children who are lost in drugs and crime. We can ask the gates of justice "to be opened" and bring to light hidden truths and/or speed the verdict or trials of blacklog undecided cases whose delay have caused illnesses on our bodies. We can command the gates of self-control "to be opened" so that we may gain control again and be free from the lust, debauchery and pornography in which we are immersed.
Yes, in HIS name, "Ephphatha!" ("Be opened!") is possible for us. A better quality of life is at hand for those who believe and cry out to HIM.-
