What's this? Disengage? How can anyone possibly achieve what they're trying to achieve by disengaging?
Simple.
Disengage from worries, fears, stress - all the negatives in your life.
Disengaging in this fashion will give you the ability to center yourself. To think clearly and stay balanced. Emotional disengagement will let you see things clearly as they truly are and not fear over what others think. An Inner fortitude, strength and general inner power that springs from a focused mind.
Stuff happens in life, unforeseen circumstances and negative vibes will definitely come your way. It happens to us all. This is the point in your life when clarity of thought and an inner belief in yourself will shine through. You won't be daunted by anything that life throws your way and you will actually find a way through the negatives to get back on the path that you want to be on.
This is the point when a fork in the road appears, a red and a blue pill. Take the wrong path and it will lead you down through self-pity, missed opportunities, 'what if' scenarios, 'if only I had done' scenarios, essentially looking back at things and living in the past. The other fork in the road is the one that will lead you to - acknowledge the 'failure' or 'lesson', look at it dead in the eyes and say 'yep, that's not the way to handle that' and then let go of it, consign it to the past and look for a different way to achieve what your heart and soul need.
In this way, disengaging becomes a learning event. Something to move you further down the path even if at times it feels that you are backtracking. Things like mood swings, being happy or sad and your existing behavior will have zero impact on this disengagement. You are as cool as a cucumber looking at those things that aren't giving you the results that you are after and trying to find a different way, a better way. With this kind of clarity you become laser sharp in your focus and immediately you will start to see opportunities where others can only see barriers.
Inner strength, intense focus and inner power will allow you to lead a life that is less stressful and much more peaceful. Take heed though, as with anything else that you want in life, the process is simple but takes work and a concerted effort.
1. Pay Attention
Step one, as always, is to know what you are doing. Start paying active attention to the running commentary in your head. Everyone has it. Most don't even realize that the voice is there. Pay close attention to it and see what kind of thoughts are running through your head continuously each and every day.
2. Visualize
Keep seeing yourself as completely calm and in control in every situation. Consciously see yourself doing this, not just when it comes naturally.
3. Stop, Breathe
After you have been paying attention to your inner voice you will start to see the times when you are reacting to others. Those times when you allow yourself to be taken over by the emotions within you, by your own thoughts and how you see things panning out. Catch yourself when you find yourself not actively listening to someone. Don't worry about what you will say. Pay attention to them and let them finish.
Then pause for a moment. Take some breaths. Center yourself and find that circle of comfort within you. Then take appropriate action after disengaging from any fear, worry or hurt that may have been caused.
4. It's Not Personal
Start to get into the habit of actively telling yourself that what the other person is saying or doing - is not personal. It's one person's opinion of a certain matter or deed. Listen, acknowledge and then either take it into consideration or allow it to float away. It shouldn't change your relationship with that person.
Actively disengage from the negatives in your world both from within and those outside influences. They only have power if you give it to them. Inner freedom, health, wealth, happiness and new opportunities are yours for the taking, if you are centered, calm, cool and totally aware.
