My grandmother attends the church basement on Tuesday evenings. I saw him there among the metal folding chairs and antique coffee pots, his...

Always Ready to Learn

Small children are amazing. They are always eager to develop and to learn more. Unfortunately many people leave this ability behind as they grow older. That is the first step in a negative aging process which has nothing to do with age.

Henry Ford once said: "Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young. The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young." Are you mentally young or have you grown old?

It isn't really that hard to keep on learning. It is all about making a habit of learning. You do not need to attend a university to learn. In fact you only need a couple of minutes a day. Why don't you learn a new word every day? That will greatly improve your capabilities as a blogger, and it will also make you a better reader.

Always ready to learn is not just about actually studying or learning as you read a book. It is in fact even more about the opposite. To always learn is to stay awake and learn from everything that happen around you.

Let us say that you walk through a park and you see a beautiful tree with colorful leaves. Why not spend a few minutes to actually find out what kind of tree you are looking at? A few minutes later you get hungry and feel like eating home made pizza. There is just one slight problem - you have no idea how to make one. Instead of ordering a pizza, find out how to make one!

There are so many ways in which you can be an active listener and an active learner. It has so much to do with your mentality and with your inner being.

If you get in the habit of learning something from everyone and everywhere you go, it will be impossible for you to stop learning. Did you know that you can learn a lot from children? Look at their activities, their actions and you will at once see examples of wisdom (or lack of wisdom) that you can apply to your very own life.

Have you stopped learning?

Have you grown old according to the definition of Henry Ford? You have no chance to get younger in real life, but you can make your mind younger. Make learning a new habit of yours. You can use a few minutes with a book to learn something, but do not forget that a you can learn something new all days and in all situations!

Be warned... this is contagious. Once you get curious and want to learn, a new world of interesting subjects will open up to you!
