Chronic Progression of Cervical Spondylosis Can Result in Vascular and Neural Compression

Unending rat race and stiff competition have become synonymous with modern-day life. The dreaded word 'target' is driving everyone crazy and we are all striving to push our limits in order to meet with success in life. To this has been added long hours of work in front of the computers, which is taking a heavy toll on our health. Result - persistent neck pain and stiffness. There was a time when only elderly people would complain about such problems; but now, even younger people are suffering from them. Worse, they tend to ignore these early symptoms. As a result, they become victims of serious spine related complications later in life.

Framework of Cervical Spine
The cervical spine is made up of seven vertebrae. These are linked by small facets of joints. Between each vertebra is a "disc" made of a tough fibrous outer layer and a softer gel-like inner part. These discs act as shock absorbers and allow the spine to bend easily. As a result of ageing, the edges of the vertebrae often develop small, bony rough areas called osteophytes. In addition, the discs lose fluids, turn brittle, break down and gradually become stiffer. This affects both structure and function of the spine. Sometimes, the discs also become thinner. All these degenerative changes of bones, discs and joints of the neck are collectively termed as Cervical Spondylosis.

Symptomatic forms of Cervical Spondylosis
The most common symptom of Cervical Spondylosis is neck pain. This may spread to the shoulders and base of the skull - making any movement of the neck extremely agonising. The pain, however, is intermittent. It tends to come and go away and may even extend down the arm right up to the fingers. Long-term spondylosis can cause complications like spinal stenosis, cervical radiculopathy or cervical myelopathy. Normal movements get severely restricted. Especially for the elderly, deriving simple pleasures of life becomes a constant struggle. Even lifting the head up and looking straight ahead becomes difficult. Gradually, one loses body-control and it becomes difficult to maintain self-reliance.

Timely correction
Treatment of Cervical Spondylosis mostly aims at relieving pain so that one can continue with the daily activities as much as possible. It also prevents further injury to spinal cord and nerves. Surgery may also be advised, although it may lead to other complications. In contrast, a state-of-the-art combination of Classical Homoeopathy, Ayurveda and Internationally Acclaimed Advanced Physiotherapy has helped this organisation to achieve safe and effective results without surgery.
